EduNova Study and Stay™ – Nova Scotia Program
Student Code of Conduct

1.   Code of Conduct Purpose
1.1.   This Student Code of Conduct outlines the rules and expectations of behaviour for all students participating in the EduNova Study and Stay™ – Nova Scotia Capstone Program (the “Program”).
All participants must always follow these rules and expectations while enrolled in the Program, including while participating in any events or activities associated with the Program.
1.2.   All participants must thoroughly read and willingly commit to adhering to this Code of Conduct in order to take part in the Program. Non-compliance may lead to appropriate disciplinary measures, including the potential of being dismissed from the Program. To maintain their position in the Program, all participants are expected to sign the Code of Conduct as an affirmation of their commitment to its principles.

2.   Program Purpose and Relationship with Host Institution
2.1.   The Program exists to provide enhanced support to participants to ensure that they gain the education, tools, and community connections needed to build a career in Nova Scotia after graduation from university or college. This support helps participants transition from students to working professionals.
2.2.   Participants in the Program may be enrolled at different universities or colleges across Nova Scotia. In addition to this Code of Conduct, participants are subject to the rules, policies, codes of conduct, and disciplinary procedures in force at their university or college. 
2.3.   If participants have questions about the rules, policies, or disciplinary procedures in force at their university or college, they should contact their institution's Program Coordinator for guidance.   

3.   Respect and Dignity
3.1.   Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. EduNova is committed to providing safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces free from harassment, sexual harassment, and all forms of discrimination.
3.2.   EduNova expects all program participants to always treat everyone with respect and dignity. This includes in the classroom, on or off campus at their university or college, with family or friends, in the workplace, or while participating in any event or activity associated with the Program.
3.3.   EduNova has zero tolerance for disrespectful behaviour that causes real or threatened harm to others or their property or jeopardizes the physical, mental, or emotional well-being of others. This includes behaviour directed towards EduNova staff, partners, mentors, other students, and peers participating in the Program, either in person or online.
3.4.   Behaviour that will not be tolerated includes, but is not limited to:
Harassment or discrimination, whether based on age, race, colour, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, physical or mental disability; an irrational fear of contracting an illness or disease; ethnic, national, or aboriginal origin, family status, marital status, source of income, political belief, affiliation, or activity, or a person’s association with another person or class of persons having any of these characteristics;
3.5.   Sexual assault or harassment of any type, including any vexatious sexual conduct or course of comment that is known or should reasonably be known to be unwelcome; any sexual solicitation, touching, or advance made by a person to another person where the person making the solicitation, touching, or advance knows or should reasonably know, that it is unwelcome; or a reprisal or threat of retaliation against an individual for rejecting a sexual solicitation or advance;
3.6.   Creating a situation that endangers the health, safety, or well-being of others or their property;
3.7.   Unwelcome or persistent conduct that is known, or should reasonably be known, to cause another person to feel bullied, demeaned, belittled, humiliated, or intimidated; and
3.8.   Engaging in persistent following, stalking, or unwanted communication with another person when it is known or should reasonably be known that the other person does not wish to engage in such conduct or communication.

4.   Participation, Attendance, and Task Duties
4.1.   As a condition of enrollment in the Program, EduNova will occasionally assign participants a variety of mandatory tasks, activities, events, and workshops. All participants must attend and actively participate in these in their entirety, whether they are virtual or in-person (following public health measurements).
Students participating in the program agree to commit 4-6 hours a month to the program’s activities.
4.2.   Program participants understand that they must complete at least 80% of the mandatory tasks and activities to graduate from the program.
Program participants understand they need to attend at least one of the four career strategist group meetings.
4.3.   Program participants understand that the BEST conference is a one-day event and a mandatory activity for the Study and Stay™ Capstone program. If unable to attend the conference in person, the participant agrees to watch the live streaming and complete all the compensatory tasks.
4.4.   Program participants understand that the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a mandatory component of the program. As part of that, participants agree to complete the online assessment and have a 30-minute meeting to debrief the results. If the participant reschedules the meeting with less than 204 hours’ notice or fails to attend a scheduled appointment, a fee will be charged (as described in the application agreement).
4.5.   EduNova understands that medical, family or personal emergencies occasionally arise that may prevent a program participant from fully attending or participating in these mandatory tasks, activities, events, and workshops. Exceptions may be provided to excuse a participant from attending or participating provided that the participant provides EduNova staff with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice or as much notice as reasonably possible, depending on the emergency circumstances.

5. Professionalism
5.1. Participants are expected to demonstrate high standards of professionalism and always act with honesty, integrity, competence, and respect. This includes following expected or published standards of professionalism in the university and college setting, where plagiarism, cheating, or breach of confidential academic materials is prohibited. 
Participants should be open to constructive feedback and criticism from EduNova staff, partners, mentors, other students, and peers participating in the Program.

6.   Communication
6.1.   Participants are expected to maintain professional communication and always be responsive to program communication. The program Coordinator will check in regularly with participants and will liaise with their universities or colleges should there be any concerns regarding the participants’ responsiveness and professionalism regarding communication.
6.2.   Regular, open communication will allow participants to enjoy the full benefits of participating in the Program. It is expected that participants will:
6.2.1.   Be responsive and always maintain professional communication.
6.2.2.   Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth.
6.2.3.   Contact Program Coordinator and mentors to communicate personal and professional learning goals.
6.2.4.   Meet with the Program Coordinator in accordance with Program outlines or as needed (by appointment). Meetings may take place in person, by phone, email or online.
6.2.5.   Be prepared in advance for meetings and appointments.
6.2.6.   Provide at least 24 hours’ notice, or as much notice as reasonably possible depending on the circumstances, if they must cancel a meeting or attendance at a Program activity, event, or workshop due to an emergency.
6.2.7.   Practice good time management to ensure their school, work, volunteer, and personal commitments schedule does not prevent their ability to complete Program tasks on time.
6.2.8.   Ask for help from their Program Coordinator to resolve any issues as needed throughout their participation in the Program.
6.2.9.   Actively work to gain practical communication and cultural insights from their peers and share their own experiences and observations and.
6.2.10.   Be open to learning from diverse perspectives and experiences.

7. Mentorship and professional communication
7.1. The participants understand that there is a mandatory mentorship component. It will be their responsibility to communicate with their mentor professionally and to arrange at least four meetings during the duration of the program. Likewise, the participant agrees to communicate in a timely manner with the Program Coordinator and dedicate their time to the program in its entirety.

8.   Physical and Mental Health
8.1.   The health and well-being of program participants are of the utmost importance to EduNova, participating universities and colleges, and Program partners. EduNova supports good physical and mental health and is committed to taking reasonable steps to ensure the well-being of program participants. Additional support and resources will be shared through the iCent app.
8.2.   When participants in the Program face challenges, difficulties, or issues that impact their physical or mental health, they are encouraged to reach out to an EduNova staff member and/or the international office at the university or college they are attending for guidance on support services that are available. There are many diverse challenges that students may face, so reaching out to talk to an EduNova staff member, international office, or trusted peer or advisor is always encouraged.   
8.3.   If a participant becomes aware of another participant who is struggling with a physical or mental health concern, they should reach out to that participant and encourage them to talk with someone or avail of the support services that are available.
8.4.   Each university and college that partners with EduNova offers a variety of physical and mental health services to students. These institutions have valuable resources tailored to meet student's specific needs, and EduNova strongly encourages participants to consult those resources. If a participant is struggling with a physical or mental health issue and contacts EduNova, with the student’s permission, EduNova will refer them to the appropriate person at their university or college so the participant can access those services. 

9.   Disciplinary Action
9.1.   As part of their institution community, participants must adhere to all institutional and Nova Scotia public health directives. If a participant refuses to agree to or violates any terms of this Code of Conduct or otherwise behaves in a manner that does not conform with the expectations for behaviour outlined above, the participant may be subject to discipline, up to and including removal from the Program. 
9.2.   When EduNova becomes aware of a participant’s breach of this Code of Conduct, EduNova will liaise with the university or college where the participant is enrolled to address the issue. 
9.3.   EduNova uses progressive discipline to respond to concerns about student behaviour or violations of this Code of Conduct. The specific response will be determined by the circumstances involved and the seriousness of the alleged misconduct. EduNova is not required to follow all steps in the discipline process and may proceed immediately to remove the participant from the Program depending on the seriousness of the misconduct.
9.4.   Where a participant has engaged in minor misconduct or violation of this Code of Conduct, as a first step, EduNova staff will speak to the student(s) involved. A warning letter (by email) outlining the steps or actions the student(s) must take will be provided. A second warning letter (by email) will be issued if a participant does not take the necessary steps or action within the timeline provided in the first warning letter (by email).
9.5.   The second letter (by email) will confirm the required steps or actions the student must take and the deadline for completion. At this point, the participant’s university or college will be informed of the violation.
9.6.   If a participant continues to not respond to the warnings or complete the required action, EduNova may remove the participant from the Program in liaison and communication with the participant’s university or college.
9.7.   Participants should be aware that their misconduct or other concerns with their behaviour may also subject them to discipline under the rules, policies, or disciplinary procedures in force at their university or college, as well as civil liability or criminal penalties enforced by the courts.

10.   Participant Agreement and Commitment
10.1.   By signing below, the program participant agrees to have read, acknowledged and understood this Code of Conduct and will abide by it for the duration of their participation in the Program.
10.2.   Keeping in mind the programs and the participant’s personal and professional goals, the participant will do their best to be respectful, participate in and complete all mandatory tasks, activities, events, and workshops as assigned, and always be professional in their communication.
10.3.   The participants understand that they may be disciplined, up to and including removal from the Program, for violating this Code of Conduct or if their behaviour does not meet the expectations outlined above.
